DESMAN’s Goodale Garage Featured in Parking Magazine

SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION - DESMAN's Goodale Street Garage in Columbus, OH is featured in Parking Magazine's March issue as an example of sustainable innovation.

The new Goodale Street Garage designed by NBBJ and DESMAN for the Franklin County Convention Authority is a perfect example. The design aims to capitalize on the complexity of the site. From the onset the design team focused their efforts on three entities, Innovative Architectural Expression, Green Parking and Adaptive Reuse.

The final ramping configuration has been positioned to allow nearly half of the building's foot print to become a different use in the future and the use of recycled building materials, energy conservation and pedestrian place making laid the groundwork toward a green parking solution.

The skin is composed of horizontal bands that are then articulated by a series of rotated vertical louvers. In many ways this can be thought of as an open air vertical expression of the noteworthy Convention Center roof designed by Peter Eisenman. The garage itself, repeating the diagram of the convention center, will serve as a much needed amenity and sustainable component for a burgeoning part of the city.
