Richmond International Airport North Parking Expansion

Richmond International Airport

Features: Four-level, seven-bay 2,600-space parking structure connected with the existing parking system designed for future vertical expansion.

Description: Recent dramatic growth in passenger enplanements has led the Capital Region Airport Commission to expand the parking adjacent to the passenger terminal. As parking consultant and structural engineer of record, DESMAN prepared design plans and specifications for this four-level, 2,600-space parking deck located north of the existing parking garages, and connected with the North Parking Garage via pedestrian and vehicular bridges. The parking garage is designed to accept a future vertical expansion of 1,400-spaces.

This parking program, plus the decision to strengthen the vertical supports of the South Parking Garage to accept a future vertical expansion, was driven by DESMAN’s parking demand study performed during the conceptual design phase. The study related parking and enplanement data so that a model of future parking conditions could be developed. DESMAN then calculated the future parking demand based on the enplanement growth published in the airport’s master plan.
