Features: 277-stall parking deck constructed into an existing hillside
Description: This project alleviated parking shortfalls in the central area of the laboratory campus created by an increased number of employees and recent construction removing surfacing spaces from the parking supply. The site presented utility challenges in its topography and underlying features, such as a stormwater sewer and a natural gas main. The building is sited to take advantage of the natural topography, providing vehicular access points on two different levels, while providing ample exterior openings. The parking functional design is a two-bay single helix with a cast-in-place post-tensioned concrete framing system. The exterior consists of architectural precast concrete panels with thin-set brick and tinted glazing. The building conforms to design requirements of all buildings on the Oak Ridge campus, and includes provision of a fire alarm system, emergency generator, automatic dry sprinkler system, public address system, and infrastructure for a future multi-panel solar array. This project was delivered to the Owner utilizing the design-build procurement method with DESMAN serving the design-build team as the project Architect and Structural Engineer of Record.
